Beddau Athletic Ready to Embrace a New Challenge in 2026/27

Jamie Willis

Another big season awaits the Athletic

Beddau Athletic are preparing for another exciting campaign as the Green & Golds continue their build-up towards the new WRU Division 5 East Central season.

Following an outstanding 2025/26 campaign, which saw the Athletic crowned Division 6 East Central Champions and lift the Mid District Division 5 Cup, the squad returns with renewed ambition and a clear target – to secure back-to-back promotions by winning the Division 5 title.

Coaching Team Confirmed

Beddau Athletic will once again be guided by an experienced and passionate coaching and management team for the 2026/27 season:

Head Coach: Jason Powell

Backs Coach: Tomos Preece

Forwards Coach: Dean Barnes

Player Coach (Contact Area & Lineouts): Lewis David

Strength & Conditioning: Ellis Butler

Team Manager: Glen Williams

The group brings together a wealth of playing, coaching and leadership experience and will be focused on developing a squad capable of challenging for honours while continuing to strengthen the pathway into the club's First XV.

Preparations begin with three challenging pre-season fixtures that will provide the perfect test ahead of the league campaign:

Pre-Season Fixtures

Saturday 15 August – Old Redcliffians 2nd XV (Home)

Saturday 22 August – Bargoed Athletic (Away)

Saturday 29 August – Aberdare Athletic (Away)

The new league season then gets underway on Saturday 12 September, when Beddau Athletic welcome Glyncoch to Mount Pleasant Park.

Team Manager Glen Williams believes the squad has the quality, commitment and togetherness to enjoy another successful season.

"Our aim is to build a team that competes with pride, passion and purpose every time we step onto the pitch. Whether it's a league fixture or a cup tie, we want to be known as a side that is organised, resilient and relentless in its pursuit of success.

"Our primary objective is to earn promotion from Division 5 as champions. Achieving this will require consistency, discipline and a commitment to the standards we set for ourselves every day—in training, on matchdays and in how we represent the club.

"We also embrace the challenge of the cup competitions. Our ambition is to make a memorable run, with the dream of leading the club out at the Principality Stadium. Every round presents an opportunity to test ourselves, create lasting memories and inspire everyone connected with the club.

"Beyond results, we are committed to building for the future. We will provide a genuine pathway for the next generation of first-team players by creating an environment where young players can develop, gain meaningful experience and earn opportunities through hard work, commitment and performance.

"Above all, we want to create a culture built on accountability, togetherness and continuous improvement. If we uphold these values every day, success will follow—not only in our league position and cup performances, but in leaving the club stronger than we found it."

With an exciting blend of experienced players and emerging talent, the Athletic continue to play a vital role within the Beddau RFC pathway, providing players with the opportunity to develop and progress towards first-team rugby.

Everyone at Beddau RFC wishes the coaching team and the entire squad every success for the season ahead. We look forward to seeing another exciting year of Green & Gold rugby, beginning with the visit of Glyncoch to Mount Pleasant Park in September.
