Beddau got their 2026/27 preparations off to a positive start with a 29-7 victory over Old Redcliffians at Mount Pleasant Park on Saturday.
The first pre-season outing proved a valuable exercise for the Green and Golds, giving the coaching team the opportunity to run the rule over the squad, give players important minutes and take a first look at a number of new faces.
As you would expect from the opening game of pre-season, there were a few signs of rustiness, but the contest certainly helped blow away the cobwebs and there was plenty to encourage the Beddau coaching team.
Several debutants impressed on their first appearance in Green and Gold, with Iwan Griffith marking his Beddau debut with a try.
Further tries came from Joe Page, Ewan Roberts, Ollie Wilde and Cody Baker as Beddau crossed five times during the afternoon.
One of the highlights was a fine individual score from Ollie Wilde, who also added a conversion to his personal tally.
Callaghan Smith was also successful from the tee with a conversion as Beddau completed a useful afternoon’s work with a 29-7 victory.
While the result is always welcome, the biggest positive was the opportunity to get competitive rugby back under the players’ belts and continue building towards the start of the new campaign.
With a number of players getting their first taste of action and the new additions beginning to settle into the squad, there were plenty of positives for the coaching team to take away from the afternoon.
Beddau’s pre-season preparations will now continue as the Green and Golds look to build fitness, combinations and momentum ahead of the competitive action.
