Beddau Colliers are preparing for an exciting new chapter as they take their place in the inaugural Cynghrair y Cymoedd a Chaerdydd (The Valleys & Cardiff League) for the 2026/27 season.

The new competition brings together some of the strongest Athletic XV sides from across Cardiff and the Valleys, creating a league designed to provide a higher standard of rugby, develop players and strengthen the pathway into senior first-team rugby. The league is expected to produce competitive fixtures every weekend, with local rivalries and quality opposition throughout the campaign.

The Colliers, who were crowned Mid District League Division Black Champions last season, now step up to face a host of familiar rivals alongside some exciting new opponents in what promises to be one of the most competitive Athletic XV leagues in Wales.

The season begins with a difficult away trip to Llantrisant, a fixture that is sure to attract plenty of interest given the close proximity of the two clubs. From there, Beddau face an impressive run of fixtures against Aberdare, Llandaff, Abercynon, St Joseph’s, Mountain Ash, Nelson, Llanishen, St Albans, Llanharan and Cardiff Met before the reverse fixtures begin.

One date supporters will immediately look for is the festive derby, with Llantrisant visiting Mount Pleasant Park over the Christmas period. Local derbies always create a special atmosphere, and another bumper crowd is expected as two proud clubs renew acquaintances.

The second half of the season sees the fixtures reversed, with the campaign concluding at Mount Pleasant Park against Llanharan, giving the Colliers the opportunity to finish the league in front of their home supporters.
