As we look back on last season, there is still a tremendous sense of pride in what this group achieved. Finishing second in our first season in the Premiership was an incredible accomplishment and one that exceeded expectations from outside the club. More importantly, it reflected the hard work, commitment and belief that exists throughout our squad and wider rugby community.
While last season gave us plenty to celebrate, our focus has already turned firmly to the challenges ahead. Pre-season is well under-way and it has started at a frantic pace. The boys have been put through their paces with a higher-than-usual volume of running, combined with detailed rugby blocks designed to ensure we are physically and mentally ready for the season ahead.
What has stood out most is the intensity and competitiveness within the group. Our senior players continue to set exceptionally high standards, driving the squad forward every session. At the same time, a number of new faces have arrived and have quickly made their presence felt. The competition for places is fierce, and with everyone fighting for starting positions, every drill, every fitness session and every rugby block matters. It is exactly the environment you want as a player and one that will undoubtedly make us stronger as a team.
A huge amount of credit must go to the coaching staff. They have done a fantastic job creating varied and engaging Saturday sessions that challenge players in different ways while maintaining a real sense of enjoyment. The balance between hard work and keeping the environment fresh has been excellent and has helped ensure standards remain high across the group.
The recent Beddau Shield was another fantastic occasion and a reminder of the strength of our community. Events like that do not happen by accident. They require countless hours of planning, organisation and hard work from people who willingly give up their time to support the club. On behalf of the players, I would like to thank everyone who played a part in making the day such a success. Your efforts are hugely appreciated and are a vital part of what makes this club so special.
Away from the pitch, there is an incredible amount of work being done behind the scenes to support rugby across all age groups within the club. From mini and junior rugby through to the senior game, volunteers and committee members continue to invest enormous amounts of time and energy into ensuring the club continues to grow and thrive. It is also exciting to see the ongoing developments at Mount Pleasant. The improvements being made will help create one of the best facilities in the Welsh Premiership and provide a home that players, members and supporters can be proud of for many years to come.
There is a real sense of optimism and determination around the club as we prepare for another Premiership campaign. Last season showed what this group is capable of, but nobody is getting carried away. The hard work continues, standards remain high, and everyone is focused on improving day by day.
We cannot wait to get back out in front of our supporters and represent this club with the same pride, passion and commitment that helped us achieve so much last year. Here's to another exciting season ahead.
