Results were mostly positive, but to see 96 players on the field of play and no fewer than 76 of them come through the mini and junior section is some proud achievement.
The 1st XV made it six wins from six in the WRU Admiral Community Premiership with a bonus point 33-27 win over fellow newly promoted outfit Llanelli Wanderers at Mount Pleasant Park.
A quick fire start by the green and golds saw them race into a 19-0 lead in less than twenty minutes as Joe Page, Sam Edwards and Ewan Roberts all crossed over the whitewash. Callum Wheeler (pictured) kicked two of the conversions as Beddau chased down the bonus point.
The Wanderers worked hard to prevent the fourth try before the interval but Beddau finally wrapped up the bonus score at the half end with Cody Baker crashing over for an unconverted try.
Beddau may have been 24-0 up at the interval but they were fully aware of the Wanderers reputation as comeback kings. And this was soon to be proved the case as the visitors crashed over for two converted scores within four minutes of the start of the second period.
Pivot Callum Wheeler extended Beddau’s lead to 33-14 with three successful penalty goals before the teams entered a nervy final quarter.
The Wanderers came back again with two late tries, one which was unconverted, and kept attacking Beddau to the death but Beddau held on to take in the end a hard fought success.
There was relief at the final whistle again. But it proved once more in patches how good Beddau can really be on their day.
Next Saturday there is a break in the league programme but there is huge excitement building as Neath travel to MPP for a WRU Cup 1/4 final tie.
The Welsh All Blacks will be going all out to reverse our 10-7 win at the Gnoll last week.
The Athletic also kept their 100% league record alive with a 12 try 71-5 win away St Peter’s.
Bailey Roberts picked up a personal haul of 21 points thanks to a try and eight conversions. There were try braces for James Davies, Christian Bird and Noah Davey whilst Ben Dummett, Mitch Davey, Rowan Jones and Lloyd Morris also crossed for good scores.
This was a resounding victory that keeps the Athletic top of the WRU Admiral Division Six East Central table as they also go into a Cup weekend with a long trip to Bangor in their sights.
The Colliers are also sitting pretty at the top of their Mid District league table with their second win from two games in the competition.
The young outfit returned from neighbours Llantrisant with a well earned 27-10 win.
Luke Davies, Ben Chatterley and Owen Rix got the important tries with Efan Jones continuing his good form with the boot slotting all three conversions and a further two penalties.
The Youth XV were in derby Cardiff Rugby league action at Llantwit Fardre and again put up a strong fight against an older Blues outfit before falling 21-7.
Samson Philpott scored Beddau’s solitary try which was converted by Dylan Szawalski.
Once again despite the defeat it was evident of the improvements the group are making.
Currently neither the Colliers or Youth have scheduled games for this coming weekend.
Also a huge well done to all our mini and juniors over the weekend. They played some great rugby in awful conditions. A huge thank you to the volunteers and the parents who were there in these poor weather conditions making it all happen.
Without these types of volunteers at all levels over many, many years then the Club certainly wouldn’t be at the heights it is today with participation levels soaring.
