The 1st XV return to Mount Pleasant Park this weekend knowing that a bonus point victory over Brecon could see them climb to the summit of the WRU Admiral Community Premiership. Sitting just four points behind leaders Merthyr, the hosts have a golden opportunity to apply serious pressure at the top end of the table as the title race continues to build towards a thrilling conclusion.
Standing in their way are a determined Brecon side who, despite propping up the table, have shown signs of real fight in recent weeks. With six games remaining, Brecon sit fifteen points adrift of safety, but a run of two wins from their last four fixtures has reignited belief within their camp. Since Christmas, they have proven to be no pushovers, pushing both Merthyr and Neath all the way on their home turf.
The reverse fixture back in December saw Beddau come away from Parc de Pugh with a 45-20 victory. On that occasion, tries from Lloyd James (2), Ellis Evans, Ewan Roberts, Adam Ashford, Ethan Coombes, and Sam Edwards secured a hard fought win, with Ollie Wilde adding five conversions.
Beddau will understand this weekend presents a very difficult challenge. With Brecon fighting for survival and Beddau chasing top spot, the stakes could not be higher at both ends of the table.
Beddau make four changes from last weekend’ victory away at Ystrad Rhondda as they look to build further momentum. Up front, skipper Lloyd Evans returns to lead the side, partnering Hemi Barnes who comes into the second row, which allows Sam Tiley to revert to his preferred back row role. In the backs, scrum half Callaghan Smith is recalled, while James Davies returns on the wing. There is also a notable milestone on the bench, with Joe Page set to make his 50th appearance for the club.

The Athletic XV’s scheduled WRU Division Six East Central game at Rumney Athletic has been postponed after the Cardiff Club informed the WRU of their decision to withdraw from the league.
This decision now means that all games that they were involved this season will be expunged from the league standings. This will leave Beddau Athletic just needing five points to guarantee promotion and the league title from their two remaining games.
The Colliers are in action in the Rhondda & East Glamorgan Ivor Williams Cup semi-final at Abercynon as they look to defend the title for the third consecutive time.
The game at Y Parc will pit the two teams at the top of their respective Mid District league table together with Abercynon already claiming the Blue Division title winning seven of their eight games and Beddau currently unbeaten in the Black Division.
The winners of this game will play the victors of the Mountain Ash versus Llantrisant game that takes place at the Cynon Valley Club this evening (Friday).
The experienced Luke Davies will captain the team from scrum half.
