There was a fantastic atmosphere on Saturday morning as Beddau RFC officially launched its pre-season preparations with the first-ever Shield Trail Challenge – an event that perfectly combined fitness, teamwork and the rich history of the local community. The challenge formed the opening chapter of the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

Starting in Beddau Square at 9:30am, competitors tackled a demanding three-stage course consisting of a 1km heritage run, a challenging 12km bike ride and a gruelling 2km uphill finish, taking participants past many of Beddau’s most historic landmarks before returning to the Clubhouse.

After a fiercely competitive morning, it was back-row forward Jack Little who emerged victorious to become the inaugural Shield Trail Challenge champion. Little produced an outstanding all-round performance across every stage of the course, demonstrating the determination, endurance and competitive edge that will no doubt serve him well when the rugby season begins.

Pushing him all the way was outside-half Ollie Wilde, who delivered an excellent performance to finish as a deserving runner-up.

The event was about far more than winning. It brought together players, coaches and supporters while celebrating the proud heritage of Beddau and reinforcing the values that have always been at the heart of the club. From the historic village landmarks to the final climb towards the Clubhouse, every kilometre reflected the resilience, pride and community spirit that define Beddau RFC.

The Shield Trail Challenge proved to be an outstanding success and an innovative way to begin pre-season, providing players with a tough physical test while strengthening the bonds within the squad.

Congratulations to Jack Little on becoming the first-ever Shield Trail Challenge winner, with congratulations also to Ollie Wilde for an excellent second-place finish.

With pre-season now well underway, the Green and Golds will look to build on the momentum from an enjoyable and memorable morning as preparations continue for what promises to be another exciting season at Mount Pleasant Park.
