Ravens Provide Final Pre-Season Test

Ravens Provide Final Pre-Season Test

Jamie Willis

Beddau v Bridgend Ravens Pre-Season Friendly Saturday 29th August Note kick off 2pm

Beddau bring their pre-season programme to a close on Saturday afternoon when Super Rygbi Cymru side Bridgend Ravens visit Mount Pleasant Park.

It promises to be another excellent test for the Green & Golds as preparations continue for the opening game of the WRU Admiral Community Premiership season away at Bedwas next weekend.

Beddau have already enjoyed two valuable outings this summer, opening with an encouraging 29-7 victory over Old Redcliffians before welcoming another Super Rygbi Cymru side, Newport, to Mount Pleasant Park last weekend.

Despite eventually going down 41-14 to the Black & Ambers, there was plenty for Lee Davies and his coaching team to take from the performance. Beddau competed strongly for long periods against quality opposition, scoring tries through captain Adam Ashford and Cody Baker and creating a number of other opportunities.

Saturday brings another step up in opposition as the Ravens arrive in Beddau.

Coached by former Wales international hooker Scott Baldwin, Bridgend are preparing for their third campaign in Super Rygbi Cymru and have retained the core of last season’s squad ahead of the new season.

The Ravens have also enjoyed an impressive pre-season to date. They opened with a 33-19 victory away at newly promoted Bedwas before recording another convincing win last Friday, defeating Neath 33-7 at The Gnoll.

Their visit to Mount Pleasant Park completes a pre-season programme consisting entirely of away fixtures against Community Premiership opposition and will be Bridgend’s final warm-up before their SRC campaign gets underway.

For Beddau, the afternoon will provide one final opportunity to build match fitness, work on combinations and give players valuable minutes before attention turns fully towards the league campaign.

The Green & Golds have deliberately tested themselves against strong opposition during pre-season, and Saturday’s encounter with the Ravens should provide another highly competitive afternoon of rugby.

With the competitive season now just around the corner, it would be fantastic to see another good crowd at Mount Pleasant Park to get behind the boys.
