It promises to be another busy weekend for Beddau RFC, with three of our sides playing at home across Friday and Saturday before our Mini & Junior Bulldogs take centre stage on Sunday.

The Youth XV get proceedings underway under the lights on Friday evening against local neighbours Llantrisant, before the 1st XV welcome Llangennech to Mount Pleasant Park and the Colliers entertain Aberdare Athletic at Yorkdale on Saturday.

There is plenty happening off the field too, with live sport being shown across the club throughout the weekend and Saturday night entertainment in the lounge.

YOUTH XV v LLANTRISANT YOUTH

Friday night rugby returns to Mount Pleasant Park as our Youth XV begin their league campaign with a local derby against Llantrisant Youth.

Beddau were due to start their season against Tonyrefail last weekend, but that fixture was postponed at the request of the visitors.

That means Friday night’s clash will be the first competitive outing of the season for the young Green & Golds, and there could hardly be a better way to start than a derby under the lights at Mount Pleasant Park.

The Green & Golds make their first home appearance of the new Community Premiership campaign when Llangennech visit Mount Pleasant Park.

Both clubs head into the contest on the back of victories on the opening weekend.
Beddau produced an excellent second-half fightback at Bedwas, recovering from a 17–5 half-time deficit to record a 26–20 bonus-point victory.

Tries from Callaghan Smith, Ethan Coombes, Sam Bixby and Ewan Roberts, along with three Ollie Wilde conversions, secured maximum points and the perfect start to the league campaign.

Llangennech also arrive at Mount Pleasant Park with a win under their belts, setting up an intriguing early-season contest between two sides looking to build momentum.

TEAM NEWS – THREE CHANGES FOR BEDDAU

Beddau make three changes to the starting XV that defeated Bedwas – and all three come in the front row.

It is a completely new front three as Chris Phillips, Corrie Tarrant and Gwilym Powell come into the starting side.

Morgan Burgess and captain Lloyd Evans continue in the second row, with Noah Davey and Sam Tiley joined in the back row by Sam Gibson.

It will be a particularly special afternoon for the all-action Gibson, who makes his 50th 1st XV appearance for Beddau.

The backline remains unchanged following the victory at Bedwas, with Callaghan Smith and Ollie Wilde continuing at half-back.

There are also some exciting opportunities among the replacements.

Lucca Alexander-White, Alfie John and Kyan Lewis are all included and will be hoping for the opportunity to make their first league appearances for the 1st XV from the bench.

The Colliers also have home advantage on Saturday as they face a big early-season challenge against Aberdare Athletic at Yorkdale.

Beddau made an excellent start to the new CCC League last weekend, returning from Llantrisant with a 38–24 victory.

Aberdare were also impressive on the opening Saturday, meaning this should provide another good test for the Colliers in the new competition.
