Weekend Preview

Jamie Willis13 Feb - 09:33

There is no 1st XV game this Saturday, but all our other senior teams are on the road in league action.

The 1st XV have a break week from Premiership rugby and will continue their preparation for their next game which is a tough home game against Neath at Mount Pleasant Park next weekend. They will also be keeping an eye on the results of Pontypridd and Merthyr who travel to Newbridge and Ystrad Rhondda respectively as the top three spots in the league continue to get tighter.

The Athletic will be looking to keep their 100% WRU Admiral Division Six East Central record intact and consolidate their top spot in the league when they travel to Llanrumney.

It will be the second time the teams have met this season after Beddau came out on top in the November league game at Mount Pleasant Park with a 54-7 win. The Cardiff Club will certainly be a stern test on their own patch though and will be looking to get the points needed to climb up from their current sixth place spot.

Beddau again select a young squad with Tom Christopher pulling on the number eight jersey and Alfie Egan starting the game at full back.

BEDDAU ATHLETIC
A.Egan, O. Rix, C. Cox, O. Cotter, C. Bird, K. Bundy, L. Jones, G. Powell, R. Jones, L. Jones©, H. Jones, C. Evans, E. Forkin, S. Bishop, T. Christopher. Reps – L. Bennett, J. Ingram, C. Bryant, S. Bennett, H. Abercrombie.

Match referee is Mr. Lewis Pyatt.
Kick- off is 2.30pm.

The Colliers return to Mid District league action with a trip to Ynysybwl. It is a battle between second and third in the table, with both teams having accumulated twenty points each this season. A win for either side would narrow the gap on leaders Llantrisant who have played three more games than Beddau and two more than Ynysybwl.

The Youth XV are also on the road but face a short journey over the hill and down into Sardis Road to take on a talented Pontypridd Youth outfit in a Cardiff Rugby Division Two encounter.

The young green and golds have shown real signs of development of late and will be looking to put on a performance against the young Valley Commandos.

Beddau have played just the one league game since the Christmas split which was a narrow defeat at Tylorstown, whilst Ponty have enjoyed a 7-0 win at Llandaff and defeats against Barry (17-43) and Rhiwbina (74-21).
