Weekend Preview

Jamie Willis27 Feb - 09:02

Its another busy weekend of rugby in the Club as we have a break from the Six Nations.

The 1st XV will be looking to consolidate their place at the top of the WRU Admiral Community Premiership as they travel down West to take on Llanelli Wanderers.

The Wanderers may be in a relegation fight currently but have really put on some big performances since they were promoted as the Championship West league winner’s last season. They will be hoping for a hat-trick of wins over Mid District Clubs at Stradey Park (pictured) having already lowered the colours of Ystrad Rhondda (20-7) and Bargoed (31-24) there this term.

Beddau came out on top 33-26 in the early season game between the Clubs at Mount Pleasant Park. Joe Page, Sam Edwards, Ewan Roberts and Cody Baker all crossed for tries that afternoon with Callum Wheeler kicking a personal haul of thirteen points. The green and golds had built up a good lead that day only for the Wanderers again to show some fighting spirit to come within a score at the final whistle.

A win for the Scarlets Club could lift them out of the bottom two places and put pressure on both Narberth and Newbridge who sit just three points above them in the table.

Beddau will be hoping to keep hold of their one-point advantage at the top but know they are in for a battle. They will also be keeping an eye on the results of the chasing Pontypridd who travel to Cross Keys and Merthyr who host Brecon at the Wern.

Beddau have the opportunity for the first time this season to name an unchanged starting team from their last outing against Neath and only show two changes on the bench with Iuaen Williams returning after a lengthy injury lay off alongside Noah Davey.

BEDDAU -
C. Baker, E. Roberts, T. Wells, A. Ashford, J. Davis, O. Wilde, C. Smith, S. Bixby, L. James, C. Phillips, D. Perry, L. Evans (c), S. Tiley, S. Gibson, E. Evans. Reps - J. Page, Gwilym Powell, Gerwyn Powell, I. Williams, N. Davey, L. Jones, B. Roberts.

Match referee is Mr. Gareth Newman, and his assistant is Mr. Jon Hardy.

Kick-off is 2.30pm
Post Code for Stradey Park is SA15 3EF.

The Athletic XV welcome Whitchurch to Mount Pleasant Park in another WRU Division Six East Central fixture.

Beddau have enjoyed an excellent first season in the National leagues where they remain unbeaten and top of the table. A win on Saturday against Whitchurch would see them extend their lead over second placed Kenfig Hill who are without a game.

Whitchurch will travel to MPP though battling to get an important win as they battle to climb off the foot of the table.

Christian Bird captains another strong youthful team which features Travis Green and James Davies who will enjoy game time after unavailability recently.

BEDDAU ATHLETIC -
O. Rix, J. Davies, C. Cox, T. Warhurst, C.Bird (c), E. Jones, S. Wilson, L. Bennett, R. Jones, T. Green, H. Jones, C. Evans, C. Bryant, S. Bishop, J. Jones. Reps - J.Ingram, E. Davies, R. Sparrow, L. Jones, D. Rees.

Kick-off is 2.30pm

There is no Colliers fixture this weekend but the Youth are in action in what should be an exciting local derby with Pontypridd at Sardis Road in a Cardiff Rugby Division Two encounter.

Both Clubs lie in mid-table on the league with Pontypridd winning one of their opening three games whilst Beddau have been hampered by postponements meaning they have only played one game which was a narrow loss at Tylorstown.

These games have always been tight and enjoyable encounters and this should prove to be no different in front of an expected sizeable crowd at Sardis.

BEDDAU YOUTH

Match referee is Mr. Neil Edwards.
